Announcing our new contract!

Great news! Your bargaining team successfully concluded the contract negotiation process for our next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The recording of today’s session will be available on Youtube next week. Pending ratification by the District Board of Trustees and faculty, here are the major improvements for faculty:

  • Raises: An 8% increase to our base salaries, with 3% retroactive to July 1, and 5% to go into effect upon the conclusion of the ratification process.

  • Academic Freedom: We strengthened and clarified the language protecting our freedoms to design and select our teaching strategies and supplementary course materials, to decide our required course materials within our departments, and to produce and publish independent research.

  • Pay Equity for Clinicals and Laboratories: We have eliminated the “multipliers” that were used in pay calculation for clinicals and laboratory courses. For years, faculty in health programs, sciences, and art programs were not paid fairly for their contact time with students. Faculty teaching clinicals were paid for only 87.5% of their time while for science labs, the multiplier was 75%. After years of effort by our union, all contact hours are now paid fully. The 1:1 pay will begin in Fall 2026.

  • Department Chairs and Program Directors: Art and Sciences department chairs have release time for the first time. Some program directors will have more release time.

Continuing contract continues to be in effect for faculty hired on the continuing-contract track and for those who already have continuing contract. Our contracts will continue to be governed by the Board Rule of 6Hx19.2-55.

The District Board of Trustees will be meeting on Tuesday, January 20 and will be voting on the ratification of our contract. All faculty will also have the opportunity to vote on our contract by mail-in ballot. A copy of the tentative contract will be emailed to you and will be available at www.uff-phsc.org.

Thank you to the bargaining team for all of their hard work on behalf of the faculty, and thank you to all of our members for their ongoing support of our union!
